Vladimir L. Levi – the most famous psychotherapist, Soviet writer, author of popular books on psychology and self-improvement. Our existence is supported by the biochemical machine of the body, which very little depends on our will. The cells of the body synthesize and break down something, the blood renews the bone marrow, the kidneys and liver perform their functions. All these units are not launched by our will, and so does our consciousness, which produces our feelings, thoughts, and decisions, based on many interpersonal patterns.

An automaton, having realized its automatism, already ceases to be just a machine – penetrating into the essence of things and seeing cause-effect chains, a person gets the opportunity to count and change himself.

In our actions and impulses, there is always a number of steps – from the level of absolute unconsciousness to full awareness. The internal organs of a person work unconsciously; unconsciously, people toss and turn in a dream, imitate others, strive for pleasure or suffering. Subconsciously, a person worries about the future (without any reason for this), experiences forbidden drives; deliberately stores

money in a bank, dresses warmly in cold weather, takes medicine or quits smoking. The boundaries between these steps are very blurred and it is not always possible to notice how they turn into each other and to say how a person thinks and thinks at a particular moment – consciously or unconsciously.

The work of our subconscious can be foreseen, understanding how the Circle of the Absolute is arranged. Our brain decomposes all the information received at different levels. In the center is an area that can be attributed to the Circle of Absolute Faith. The following are the spheres of Reliable, Doubtful, Unlikely, Incredible (all definitions are conditional and can be supplemented).

The Circle of the Absolute is what we believe in – mind, logic, feelings. Those ideas and impressions that can turn into our states. In each of us, subject to a choice, a “YES-NO machine” is turned on. For example, when something is offered to you at a table, the brain analyzes the internal processes for the first few seconds to form a “yes” or “no” signal. This mechanism is universal and helps a person answer questions about whether you are hungry or not, whether you are able to jump over a ditch or write an article. This subconscious self-foresight occurs in us continuously, creating some paradoxical states.

This model becomes clear when considering the following situation. You need to go along a log that lies on the ground (medium thickness) and you easily do it. But, if you raise the log to a dangerous height, you will not go on it (unless you have special training). Why? You stop believing that you can do it, and the fear that has arisen can really lead to the fact that you fall. The subconscious has its own unconscious logic – both in perception and in action. A paradoxical situation is created – the understanding of “that you cannot fall” increases the likelihood of a fall.

Not a Day Without Auto-training and Self-hypnosis

What is auto-suggestion? This is an inconspicuous but constantly operating mechanism of the psyche that helps to redistribute internal meanings, reveal hidden reserves, prolong life and make it brighter and more saturated.

The main self-suggestions of the day begin for each person when he wakes up in the morning. The woman, preening herself in front of the mirror, intensely inspires herself that she is attractive, and the driver, walking towards the car, is already gaining confidence in the subconsciousness of his professionalism and vigilance on the road. In any situation, we “win” ourselves, reality becomes the greatest hypnotist, whose main agent is the human environment.

I choose myself – I’m lying, but I can get up at any moment. I have the opportunity to change my posture whenever I want – choosing from “various spaces of degrees of freedom” of my body. The mental states of the individual can be compared with the same spaces.

Self-hypnosis is a force that acts in the space of freedom of the psyche, taking nothing from nothing but only increase the likelihood of one of the possible conditions. This is a redistribution of internal meanings, a conscious or subconscious choice of oneself.

At the same time, feelings should not be too easily controlled. If with a single memory of a fever, we could raise our body temperature, or, while reading Gorky’s novel, experience pain with his heroine, we would become like robots and we would not need music, poetry or theater. But feelings can still be controlled using auto-suggestion, ordering the necessary conditions. Examples of such psychological games can be seen in companies that warm themselves and the public to the necessary state of fun. Semi-subconsciously ordering themselves to be cheerful, people begin to look for ways to this state, the so-called “Unlocking keys” (jokes, jokes). Artists also “turn on” themselves by connecting auto-training (AT) and inspiring themselves with the necessary emotions.

In order to create the necessary emotion in oneself, a person seeks to develop in his consciousness a form of knowledge that lives at that moment in the form of confidence in knowledge.

The bridge between the consciousness and the subconscious is thrown, the enumeration of options begins – to select the most optimal one. These processes are similar to solving a difficult task – when we think about a problem for a long time and then let it go – after a while, the solution comes up – it pops up by itself. The same thing happens with AT – when we order the conditions we need, after a while, we begin to feel them.

It is difficult to comprehend the nature of auto-suggestion because it almost always intertwines with other, more obvious forces. You can hope for it, but not try to give in to calculation. One of the most striking examples of auto-suggestion is treatment. Most often, with the same diagnosis and taking the same drugs, the condition of the patients can radically differ. Why? Most often it is a matter of psychology – one patient believes in the success of treatment, and the other does not.

Self-hypnosis acts when there is a choice of “either-or.” In order for it to have an effect, it takes a little time – to infiltrate the subconscious, mobilize internal reserves, create a chain reaction – and all this before the opposite acting agent begins to influence it.

Experimental Auto-training

Scientists have long proved the fact that animals have yogic abilities. Rats, cats, and dogs can increase or decrease their heart rate, blood pressure, blood flow, and more. etc. – in order to get food or to avoid pain.

Foreign doctors, in the same way, experimented with the abilities of people – those who agreed to pass the test were asked to influence the readings in any way. In most cases, the subjects achieved the desired result over time – by adjusting their heart rate or pressure level, they influenced the testimony

Autotraining (AT) is the conscious control of the unconscious. In order to inspire yourself with something, you need a sober introspection and a clear statement of the internal problem.

Even those who read about AT for the first time do not suspect that they are somehow engaged in self-hypnosis from time to time. For the first time, the nature of this phenomenon began to be studied by a German psychotherapist in the 20-30s of the last century. Inspiring his patients with a state of rest or sleep, he noticed that they could inspire themselves in the same state. And the better they succeeded, the faster the process of treating various neuroses. Since then, many doctors have been studying this area and are developing various methods of “self-hypnosis” or “autogenic training.”

  • the presence of acute developing infectious, mental or vascular diseases;
  • in case of disorders of the cardiovascular system, you should consult your doctor before taking AT exercises;
  • tendency to excessive uncertainty or tension – in such cases, at the initial stages it is advisable to ask for outside support.
